You can pair a specific remote to a specific computer to prevent interferance.

Click and hold the Menu and Next/Fast-forward buttons for 5 seconds. To unpair the computer, open the Security pane in System Preferences and Click Unpair.

Other abilities of the Apple remote:

* Hold the Play button to put your Mac to sleep.
* Press the Menu button to wake a sleeping Mac.
